Card for friend

I was going to post this card the other day, and found out that Blogger is changing it's Blog style April lst, so I clicked on the link to upgrade.  Instant Panic!  The new format was totally confusing and I thought I had lost all my daily notifications from blogs I like to follow. Plus I couldn't see where to make a new post. Yesterday afternoon, I sat down at the 'puter and did some looking through the new format. Well today, it's not quite as intimidating as I'm slowly learning to get around the site.

For anyone who has switched over, when you click on "Design" at the top right menu of your blog Homepage, you get a new page. Then if you click on the orange "My Blogs" on the top left hand side, you will be directed to your daily notifications that used to show up under the old Dashboard. It seems to take a minute to upload all the blogs. I still think the new format is too "busy" and more clicking with your mouse, but as with any changes, perhaps I'll get comfortable using it after a few weeks.

A new friend gave me a homemade gift last weekend, so I made this card to thank her. She likes butterflies.

I  used Tim Holtz "Papillon" word background stamp for the stitched background layer
 - Began with  sponging on Shabby Shutters and Broken China DI, spritzed with Perfect Pearls Mist Blue Patina, then sponged the torn edges with Tea Dye and Walnut Stain. Stitched two rows on my sewing machine and made them wonky on purpose.
- The punched index card, torn layer is stamped with butterflies from the same stamp set, shaded with Copic markers, Antique Linen and Tea Dye sponged on the edges. Edge punch by EKSuccess.
- The flower brad was a silver one, so I used Adirondack Gold sponge dabber to paint it, sponged with Walnut Stain DI to antique it further.
-Label is Tim's small alterations die
- Background layer of butterfly is a scrap piece of  BasicGrey paper cut with Memory Box "Moonlight Butterfly" die, then the top layer is cut with the coordinating Memory Box die "Kaleidoscope Butterfly" in brown brushed glitter Bazzill.
-Brown lace ribbon by Kaisercraft
-Sorry I can't say who makes the blue butterfly background paper and it is from my stash

I have a new Vintaj Big Kick machine and it cuts the Memory Box and CheeryLynn dies so easily. I guess my 8 year old Cuttlebug will be retired from now on!

I'm going to enter this card into the new challenge at Frilly and Funkie -vintage style.

Received package from Tim Holtz

I have been stalking the mailman waiting for my prize package from Tim Holtz, and it arrived today.

There was a package of yellow Honey Pop honeycomb paper, and a Stampers Anonymous red rubber cling stamp set "Steampunk".  Wahoo!!

The green customs tag was signed by Tim himself.  Will have to steam it off and save it in my Tim Holtz binder as a souvenir.  :->)

Things with Wings

The challenge at The Play Date Cafe is a colour challenge using soft green, peachy pink and cream. In my pic, the background green layer looks blueish, but in real life it is like sea glass green.

On the background paper, I  randomly stamped one of Tim Holtz small acrylic script stamps in Antique Linen distress ink. All layers are sponged with Antique Linen DI.

The verse by Hampton Arts "Life's Beautiful" is stamped with Walnut Stain DI and layer cut with Spellbinders circle.

The brown lacy doily is a new Cheery Lynn die "Sophia's Heart".

I made the flower with Tim's Tattered Floral die using paper from Coles' Notes - Homer's "The Odyssey". My daughter's books from university came in handy! LOL! The layers were sponged with Broken China DI, spritzed with Ranger Blue Patina Pearl Mist, and some Rock Candy distress stickles.

I found the butterfly at my local Dollar Store, and the peach roses are Kaisercraft.

Quick card

Yesterday, I was going through my folder of diecuts that I had on hand from other projects. I found this cupcake, verse and lacy edging so I created this quick card.

All I had to do was add some suitable paper,  the brown lacy "doily" (Spellbinders Tear Drop circle) to the bottom of the cupcake, and some sheer ribbon. Sorry, I can't say who makes the paper as it is from my paper scraps file.  Inside the verse reads, "Everyone knows....birthday calories don't count!"

It seems that I can sometimes spend three hours making a "shabby chic" card, especially if there are techniques, so it was quite nice to put together a card in under 15 minutes and use some of my stash.
It will go in my card box for a future birthday as required - lots coming up in April.

Birthday Card for Friend

This is a birthday card I made for a friend with one of my favourite stamps by Emerson from American Art Stamps. I love this line of gal stamps and have five of them that I use every now and then.  They always seem to bring a little chuckle to the recipient!

I coloured the image with Copic markers, added Stickles Diamond and Turquoise for the ladies' blingy jewellry, and Crystal Effects on the wine glasses and eye glasses for dimension.

The little flower at the top I made from Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die out of embossed wallpaper (for the recycle challenge at Speedy the Cat's Friends) , sponged with Tumbled Glass DI, with  tiny white and blue Prima centres.

The border is a large edge punch by Martha Stewart "Daisy". I also used Spellbinders scalloped rectangle die, pearls and lace ribbon. The papers are by Basic Grey "Kioshi" , 6x6 paper pad.

I'm entering the card into at Stamptacular Sunday "Text me" challenge, and Chocolate Coffee & Cards challenge "Drink it Up"!

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2012 - March

This is my take on Tim's Tag for March:

detail of stained glass technique
Instead of using the woodgrain stamp, I made a nature inspired background. I wanted the bugs to look as though there was grass and sky behind them.  First of all, I applied streaks from middle of tag to the bottom with a Peeled Paint distress ink Dauber, and also sponged  Tumbled Glass DI over that and up to the top of the tag. Then I misted with water, and dried.  I inked up Tim's "Papillon" verse stamp with Antique Linen DI and stamped the whole tag. The edge of the tag was sponged with Vintage Photo DI.

With  a Spellbinders die, I cut out a dragonfly and small butterfly from Grunge paper and did the stained glass technique. I didn't have Cement Antiquities distress EP, so I used clear irridescent EP. I gives a bit of shimmer to the bugs.

At the bottom of the tag is a Rusted Grunge technique label using the Alterations Movers&Shapers die, Forest Moss DI, and copper EP. The verse is from Tim's "Odds and Ends" ticket stamps. I also used a piece of acrylic over the verse inside the label.

The flourish and leaves is a Heartfelt Creations Spellbinders die " Belle Rose". Green silk ribbon is threaded through the top of the tag.

I was very pleased with this tag and love the effect of the "stained glass" (giving myself a pat on the shoulders!) LOL

Really I should get a lotto ticket....

Today when I went to Tim Holtz' blog to see his March tag (12 tags of 2012), I was reading through
the post and noticed my name as one of the winners for the February tag- Valentine Tag. My heart stopped for a minute...it truely did!!!

He had so many entries, it's hard to believe that my name was randomly drawn. So I have sent my info off to Mario and will wait with great anticipation to receive my prize.

My friend "M" keeps saying I should buy a lotto ticket.....just maybe I'll go out and buy one for tomorrow night's draw. LOL
